Item Conocimientos de seguridad del paciente en estudiantes de enfermería de una universidad privada del municipio de Palmira valle del cauca, 2019(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Balanta Vidal, Nasira; Silva Díaz, Luz Daissy; Torres Díaz, Maifer; Rivera Romero, Viviana (Asesora)Patient Safety (PS) is a fundamental component of healthcare quality, focused on preventing harm caused by medical errors. Its global significance was highlighted by the 2000 report To Err Is Human, which revealed thousands of deaths due to unsafe care and led the World Health Organization (WHO) to establish the World Alliance for Patient Safety in 2004. In developed countries, one in ten hospitalized patients experiences adverse events, with potentially higher rates in developing nations. Nurses, due to their close contact with patients, play a key role in identifying and preventing such incidents. In Colombia, the Patient Safety Policy aims to reduce and eliminate risks in healthcare delivery. Given the lack of studies on PS knowledge among nursing students in Valle del Cauca, a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study is proposed involving students from semesters VIII to X at a private university in Palmira, to assess their level of knowledge and strengthen their professional training.Item Factores asociados a la morbilidad materna extrema reportados en sivigila en la ciudad de Palmira 2018(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Hernandez Garcia, Melissa; Ospina Mendez, Mayra Alejandra; Sanabria Leiva, Laura Melissa; Zafra Hernández, Sandra Patricia ( Asesora)The objective of this research was to identify the factors associated with Severe Maternal Morbidity (SMM) in Palmira during 2018, based on reports from event 549 of the SIVIGILA surveillance system. SMM, as defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), refers to a condition in which a woman nearly dies but survives a complication related to pregnancy, childbirth, or within 42 days after the end of pregnancy. It serves as a key indicator for assessing the quality of healthcare services. Through a systematic review of records submitted by local health institutions, the study determined that the main associated factors were labor conditions, economic challenges, and low attendance at prenatal check-ups. Additionally, a higher incidence was observed among women under the age of 31.Item Competencias de cuidado brindado por madres comunitarias a niños en hogares infantiles del municipio de Candelaria.(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Diaz Sanchez, Maria Del Mar; Santa Pedroza, Jhon Freddy; Beitia Cardona, Pedro Nel (Director)This research, conducted between January and June 2019 in the community homes El Otoñito, Los Angelitos, Las Mariposas, and Las Palomas in the municipality of Candelaria, aimed to determine the level of competencies of community mothers in child care. The study, with a qualitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, and non-experimental approach, was based on the analysis of the competencies acquired by these mothers through training processes provided by the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF), with the purpose of strengthening their role as educational agents. The sample consisted of four community mothers who voluntarily participated under informed consent. The research was conducted in accordance with national and international ethical principles, posing no risk to the participants. The results will support the implementation of training and follow-up processes that enhance existing skills, thereby improving the performance of community mothers in their educational role.Item Percepción de estudiantes sobre la calidad de los materiales de apoyo utilizados por los docentes del programa de enfermería de una universidad privada en Palmira 2019.(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Burbano Ramirez, María De Los Ángeles; Cobo Velasco, Geraldine; García Hernández, Lisbeth Johana; Bedoya Sandoval, Juan Fernando (Asesor)his study aims to evaluate the perception of ninth- and tenth-semester nursing students at a private university in Palmira regarding the quality of support materials used by their instructors. Perception is understood as a subjective opinion shaped by individual knowledge, experiences, and social interactions, allowing students to provide valid assessments of the education they receive. Given their academic trajectory, these students are well-positioned to identify strengths and weaknesses in teaching practices. The study follows a quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental, cross-sectional design, using a probabilistic sample obtained through simple random sampling. Results show that most participants are between 20 and 24 years old (54.8%) and belong to socioeconomic stratum 2 (54.8%), with the ninth semester being the most represented (59.5%). Regarding teaching clarity, 64.3% reported that instructors frequently communicate clearly. However, only 50% indicated that appropriate spaces for workshops are occasionally available. Additionally, 54.8% agreed that instructors provide support during practical sessions, while 40.5% stated that competency-building workshops are conducted only occasionally. These findings highlight areas for pedagogical improvement and support the development of strategies to enhance professional learning and academic quality.Item Prevalencia y factores asociados al consumo de productos tabáquicos en escolarizados en Villagorgona – Candelaria Valle(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Fontal López, María Camila; Tamayo Palomino, Sussel Daniela; Zapata Montoya, Alexandra (Asesora)This research focuses on the prevalence and associated factors of tobacco product consumption among students at the Villagorgona Educational Institution, SRS and JEC campuses, located in Villagorgona – Candelaria, Valle del Cauca. The study highlights the vulnerability of young people to tobacco use, influenced by social, environmental, personal, and psychological factors. Despite its advantages, the practice is often challenged by the use of breast milk substitutes, which pose health risks—especially in vulnerable populations lacking access to clean water or sufficient resources. International organizations like WHO and UNICEF, along with Colombia’s ICBF, promote breastfeeding through initiatives such as the Development of Early Childhood in Family Settings (DIMF). This study, conducted in Palmira in 2019, uses a quantitative, descriptive, and retrospective approach to identify factors influencing the lack of exclusive breastfeeding among mothers enrolled in the DIMF program. With a sample of 126 mothers from urban and rural areas, the research aims to design educational strategies that address barriers to breastfeeding, strengthen maternal support, and promote optimal infant nutrition—contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and Colombia’s Decennial Health Plan.Item Prevalencia de enfermedad pulmonar obstructiva crónica en una población adulta mayor en el municipio de Caloto en 2019(2019) Pabón, Johana Milena; Montaño Loboa, Carlos Julio; Martínez, Alfonsina del Cristo (Directora)Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a respiratory condition that restricts airflow to the lungs, with common symptoms including shortness of breath, chronic cough, excessive sputum, and persistent dyspnea. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), COPD encompasses conditions such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Environmental pollution, smoking, exposure to chemical agents, and age-related lung changes make older adults particularly vulnerable to developing COPD. Recognized as a public health issue by organizations like WHO, GARD, and ALAT, COPD requires interdisciplinary management, highlighting the crucial role of nursing professionals in prevention and care. This study assessed the prevalence of COPD among 650 elderly individuals in Caloto, Cauca, identifying key risk factors and emphasizing the need for targeted health promotion and disease prevention programs to reduce complications in diagnosed patients.Item Competencias de liderazgo en estudiantes de enfermería en una institución de educación superior de Palmira – Valle año 2019(2019) Gonzales Vergara, Isabel Cristina; Napoli Sanchez, Mary Johanna; Vargas Martinez, Stephania; Zapata Montoya, Alexandra (Asesor)Leadership is currently a topic of great interest in both educational and professional settings, especially in developing competencies that enhance students' skills. In Colombia, current health policies promote dignified treatment, especially in cases of perinatal loss, which can cause a profound emotional rupture for the mother and her family. Professional support is key to reducing uncertainty and facilitating emotional adaptation during this difficult time. The World Health Organization highlights humanized care as a vital component of the comprehensive development of healthcare professionals, emphasizing the importance of mutual support. Maternal grief can lead to psychological disorders such as depression or anxiety in a significant number of mothers, potentially affecting future pregnancies. Since healthcare personnel are not always prepared to handle these situations, it is necessary to strengthen their training in humanized care, providing tools that enable them to support grieving families with sensitivity and empathy.Item Revisión bibliográfica sobre el cuidado humanizado del profesional de enfermería en el duelo materno.(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Lemos Montes, Franceny; Zafra Hernández, Sandra Patricia (Directora)The purpose of this monographic review is to conceptualize the humanized nursing care provided during maternal grief, recognizing that humanization in healthcare is a fundamental right. In Colombia, current health policies aim to ensure dignified treatment, especially during vulnerable moments such as perinatal loss. This experience represents a profound emotional rupture for both the mother and her family, as the birth of a child often symbolizes a new life project. When this expectation is interrupted unexpectedly, a grieving process begins that requires sensitive and empathetic professional support. The World Health Organization promotes humanized care as an essential part of professional development in healthcare, emphasizing the importance of communication and mutual support. Studies indicate that up to 20% of mothers may develop psychological disorders such as depression or anxiety after a loss, potentially affecting future pregnancies. However, healthcare personnel are often unprepared to face such situations, as their training focuses on saving lives rather than coping with sudden loss. Therefore, it is crucial for nursing professionals to have the tools to provide comprehensive and humanized care, acknowledging the emotional impact of maternal grief and supporting families throughout their recovery process.Item El cuidado de enfermería en la prevención de complicaciones por trastornos depresivos. Revisión de literatura entre 2010-2018(2019) Enriquez Moreno, Deysy Sirley; Juaspuezan Tatamues, Diana Yorely; Llorente Revelo, Evelin Paola; Martínez Gutiérrez, Alfonsina (Asesor)Major depression is one of the most prevalent mental health disorders worldwide, with serious consequences such as increased suicide rates. It is characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and guilt, and represents a significant public health concern. Its impact on individuals' quality of life has sparked extensive debate within the scientific community, which continues to seek effective strategies to mitigate its effects. Technological advancements have enabled the development of tools that help address the risks associated with this condition more efficiently. This research aims to emphasize the essential role of nursing care in treating patients with depressive disorders, focusing on the prevention of complications. A descriptive approach will be used, based on the review of 38 scientific articles, along with additional sources such as journals and newspapers. From an epidemiological perspective, major depression is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally. Therefore, nursing professionals must implement comprehensive strategies that encompass prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care, ultimately improving the quality of life for patients and their families.Item Prevalencia y factores asociados al consumo de productos tabáquicos en adolescentes escolarizados de Pradera Valle, Colombia(2019) Granja, Lina Marcela; Guerrero Godoy, DanielaTobacco consumption is one of the leading public health problems worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), causing up to 50% of preventable deaths among its users. Its social acceptance and widespread use, especially among adolescents, make it an increasing concern, with evidence showing that the habit often begins during school age. The National Survey on School Health and Youth Smoking (ENTJ, 2018) reports that 20% of youth aged 12 to 13 have consumed tobacco products, primarily in school environments. In light of the 2012–2021 Ten-Year Health Plan’s goal to reduce adult smoking to 10%, it is essential to identify the prevalence, persistence, and associated factors of tobacco use among adolescents. This descriptive cross-sectional study applies the Emtajoven survey to 252 secondary school students (ages 9–19) in Pradera, Valle, to assess consumption patterns and their relationship with the social environment. The results aim to generate useful indicators for monitoring behaviors, consumption profiles, and the impact of prevention and control strategies.Item Aplicación del modelo de atención primaria en salud en prácticas formativas de los estudiantes de III semestre programa de enfermería Universidad Santiago de Cali seccional Palmira en el periodo 2019-A(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Ruiz Aguilar, Carlos Alfonso; Avalo Herrera, Angie Vanessa; Buendía Rodríguez, Yessica Johana; Zafra Hernández, Sandra Patricia (Directora)This analytical educational intervention study evaluates the implementation of the Primary Health Care (PHC) model in the training of third-semester nursing students at Universidad Santiago de Cali, Palmira campus. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), low birth weight remains a major public health issue and is one of the strongest predictors of infant mortality, especially in countries with lower human development indices. In Colombia, the healthcare system has shifted from a curative to a preventive model, emphasizing the importance of identifying factors associated with low birth weight. This study adopts a quantitative, descriptive, and retrospective approach to analyze such factors in term newborns in Palmira during the first trimester of 2019, based on reports from event 110 of the Public Health Surveillance System (SIVIGILA). The main objective is to determine the factors linked to low birth weight in term infants, aiming to reduce morbidity risks and improve child health outcomes. The findings support the development of stronger health promotion and prevention strategies, as low birth weight is associated with negative consequences such as increased morbidity and mortality, lower educational attainment, and reduced productivity—factors that contribute to the intergenerational cycle of poverty and inequality. The purpose of the research was to determine the perception of nursing stu-dents of the university welfare model of a private higher education institution in 2019.
