Item Representaciones sociales de cuidados paliativos en estudiantes de último año de medicina(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2020) Puentes Úrsuga, María José; López Peláez, Jéssica (Directora)The adequate practice of medicine implies not only the basis of scientific knowledge, but also the attitudes established in the systems of beliefs, which are held with the patients. In particular, in the area of palliative care where greater levels of humanization are required in the accompaniment at the end of life. The objective of this study was to identify the social representations of palliative care in final year medical students of a higher education institution. This research is of a descriptive type, with a sample of 72 students. A questionnaire was applied to measure social representations, with four categories of analysis: attitudes, knowledge, experiences and social representation of palliative care. The results show a high interest and perceived importance of the students for the palliative care, but insufficient preparation in front of the necessary tools to communicate bad news and talk about death, indispensable skills in the performance of this specialty. A significant difference is highlighted according to the socioeconomic stratum with experience and attitude, which indicates how the social context is a modulator in the construction of beliefs and attitudes, which can be modified through education, implementing the formation of this area from the undergraduate level.
