Mental health in children encompasses more than the absence of disorders; it involves coping with stress, developing skills, building positive relationships, and contributing to society. However, traumatic events beyond a child’s control can severely impact emotional well-being, leading to psychological disorders and psychosocial disabilities. To explore these effects, a systematic literature review was conducted between 2019 and 2023 using the PRISMA method, analyzing 1228 articles from national and international databases, of which 25 met the inclusion criteria. The findings reveal that violence and trauma can hinder cognitive development, impair social interactions, lower academic performance, and increase mortality risk. Recognizing a history of abuse is essential for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment, emphasizing the need for a compassionate, holistic approach that considers each child’s personal history.
