Data collection was carried out through the following instruments: A descriptive rubric was used to diagnose the population sample speaking skills level and to identify the aspects of oral production where weaknesses are present and on which the didactic unit was based and the intervention focused. During the intervention a field diary was used to record everything that occurred in the observed classes. The analysed data suggests that songs could be useful to improve certain aspects of what a speaking monologue requires, such as vocabulary and pronunciation. However, grammar structures may not improve equally. Rhymes and songs are didactic resources that can be incorporated in different diagnoses and applied to an inclusive classroom with special and non-special needs students. These aim to fulfill the main objective of the work, which is to identify the aspects that influence the development of oral production in monologue level b1, of the 7th semester students of the degree in foreign languages of Santiago University from Cali. It is also important to take account with this research, we will find the difficulties in the field of oral expression (monologue followed, level B1) among the pupils in seventh semester. In order to achieve our goals, we followed three data collection instruments. First, non-participatory observations on a sample. These observations will allow us to identify the course flow and the activities carried out and to know the use of the target language and the mother tongue. Second, surveys will be completed by the students in the sample. They aim to extract factors that influence their learning of French either positively or negatively. Finally, we will make a diagnosis (DELF B1), which will allow us to know the real level of the students considering the descriptors proposed by the CEFR. Every student dream of speaking a foreign language well. In the seventh semester, they must have level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).Item Perspectiva de la educación inicial en el centro de desarrollo infantil (CDI) Aranjuez de la comuna 13 de la ciudad de Santiago de Cali(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Echeverri Becerra, Carolina; Echeverri Ramírez, Daniela; Noreña Orozco, María Yurani; Guevara Salazar, Leidy XimenaOne quality education that is complete, is the only way to take the human being towards technological advances and social transformations. In concern about it, Colombia has created public policies for comprehensive care to early childhood that is precisely the most crucial stage of life for the human being, where the first foundations are laid down that will most likely determine what the child will be in the adulthood . These policies cover different topics that have the same aim; offer quality education to all children in Colombia. For this, there are documentation that supports the conditions, means and tools for such education to be provided. The research project “Perspectiva de la educación inicial en el CDI Aranjuez de la comuna 13 de la ciudad de Santiago de Cali”, seeks to determine the enabling actions of integral development that are promoted from the Educational Environment of the Centro de Desarrollo Integral (CDI) of the city of Santiago de Cali, within the framework of Public Policy of Comprehensive Early Childhood Care, where it use survey, interview, field diary and direct observation to collect pertinent information on educational qualified from a teaching perspective backed by an analysis of different documents of the Ministerio de Educación Nacional, Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar, Ministerio de la Protección Social, among others, which are the guide to an integral education, which covers all the children structure.Item Estrategias de aprendizaje para la suma de números enteros utilizando plataformas virtuales educativas(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Aristizabal Gutiérrez, Ruth Verónica; Lizcano Rojas, Lucelly; Villota Enriquez, Jakeline AmparoThe present investigation consisted of characterizing the strategies that students use for the sum of whole numbers through virtual educational platforms. The context of this study were two educational institutions: Miravalle School Institution and Liceo Porvenir Institution; where the participants were 67 students, which were distributed in two courses in the following way, 45 students in first grade, 22 in sixth grade, for the analysis and the data a sample of four students of each grade was taken in a random way. The study method was qualitative and the direct observation type; the instruments used for the collection of information were the implementation of mathematical tasks, the observation which was approached through filming and / or videos, photos and field notebook. The results obtained showed that there are different learning strategies which are used by the students in a conscious and unconscious way, but in most cases they are employed autonomously and voluntarily in order to develop the proposed mathematical tasks. It should be noted that the proposed mathematical tasks were mediated by the use of virtual educational platforms (Sofiaxt and Educaplay), with the intention of improving the student's interaction with the task to be performed and recognizing the strengths of these tools in the current educational contextItem Representaciones sociales de rockeros sobre los bares del sector de la calle quinta entre 25 y 26 en Cali(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Franco Duque, Jenny; Betancur Cruz, Luis BernardoThis is a qualitative research that was conducted in the city of Santiago de Cali, more exactly in the rock bars. In order to acquire the data a descriptive research method was carried out, a questionnaire was given to students of eleven grade at Colegio Anglo Hispano, for measuring their perception towards the implementation of video-based learning method during the ESL class. the sample was calculated by using chi square formula as this study has the character of a non-statistical research. Due to this is concluded that, a video based learning method can help students acquire metacognitive skills in the use of a second language and that it’s a major confidence builder and its input is outstanding in the student’s speaking development.Item Failures in EFL Literacy at Higher Education(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Castro Pedroza, Castro Pedroza; Sierra Ortiz, Diana Marcela; Braconnier, AnaïsThe next proposal attends to analyze students of English as a second language (ESL), who might be presenting difficulties in literacy skills. In order to recognize those difficulties and know how those are related to a non-completely successful second language (L2) learning of English. To accomplish this study the main focus is literacy, skills, and evaluation as the theoretical framework on which the research will be supported, to get the proper data collection and its later analysis. The Santiago de Cali University (USC) language institute was chosen to develop this study, specifically the first level English students. Considering that in a beginner level it would be easier to recognize the literacy skills failures focus on grammar, presented by the students in the effort to comprehend and try to classify which their possible sources are and why they remain until a high educational level like University. The methodology implemented was the qualitative research through a survey and a written assignment, which allowed us to identify the literacy skills failures. Finally, with this study we would like to contribute to education, in this case to the L2 teaching and learning process. We, as foreign language learners. Have struggled with literacy skills difficulties and we believe that if a teacher realizes about students failures; and delve into their possible causes, it might be easier to attempt to guide the student into a process of learning while correcting mistakes instead of just learning by jumping into gaps.Item Integrating ICT in teaching a foreign language(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Melchor Urriago, Shirley Dayanm; Narváez González, Alejandro; Carrillo Ordoñez, Valeria; Fernández Benavides, AlejandroThe research consists on the analysis of the integration of information and communication technologies in language teaching in a teacher formation program in a private university in Cali. It aims to identify the attitudes, uses and perspectives of teachers and students regarding the integration of technology in the teaching of a foreign language, in the Integrated Skills course in English VII of the program of Foreign Languages at Santiago de Cali University. In addition, our theoretical perspective focuses on the active use of technology in education and language teaching. This is a qualitative case study where interviews, surveys, and observations were used for the data collection. The collected information was analyzed by frequency analysis and discourse analysis. The results show that some of the professors of the program of foreign language at Santiago de Cali University use technology for the development of their classes. However, the use of technologies in classes focuses on a passive notion of the apprentice where technology is used mainly to perform limited activities. In addition, the findings suggest that there must be a teacher training in order to use technology in education to develop different activities in order to motivate students during their learning process. Consequently, it is suggested that future studies focus on the students' conception of technology and the impact of particular language skills and their conception of language teaching and learning. Moreover, this research is useful for future researchers in order to analyze the importance of the integration of information and communication technologies in the classroom. Finally, this study opens the door to future research for a greater understanding of the processes of integration of technology in the training of foreign language teachers.Item Creation and use of an english language primer for transition level students(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Lucumí Lucumí, Leidy Joana; Sánchez García, Luz Elena; Murillo Rodríguez, Luis Alberto; Rojas Miranda, Juan SebastiánThe present study focuses in the methodology implemented by teachers to strengthen the five to six years old student's reading skills at the Santiaguitos kindergarten located in the Santiago de Cali University. For this purpose, a diagnostic observation was set up and implemented for students while an interview with structured questions was conducted with the teacher and administrative staff, seeking to obtain relevant and significant information regarding the English proficiency level of each student selected for the study. The methodology implemented by the teacher in order to teach English language was also revised, as the methodology implemented by the teachers to strengthen the Santiaguitos kindergarten student's reading skills. The main goal was to test a new didactic material, (a primer) in English language, that was designed previously in order to improve the student's reading skills by using images (animals, colors, family members, numbers) and simple puzzles based upon the constructivist paradigm. After exposing the children to the new Primer and its associated activities, new testing and interviews allowed the assessment of the Primer´s advantages and challenges.Item Usefulness of skimming strategy to strengthen the reading skill through videogames with sixth grade students at Colegio Mayor Alférez Real(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Riascos Benavides, Diana Marcela; Montaño Candelo, Muhammad Rida; Teneche Sánchez, María FernandaThis article presents the results of an investigation done with eighteen students in the sixth grade of the Colegio Mayor Alférez Real. The issue with the students was related to reading comprehension in English, for that reason, the skimming strategy was used as a manner of investigating the problem in depth. The general objective stated for research was to analyze if the implementation of the skimming skill strategy through videogames is suitable for improving reading comprehension. The videogame was used as a means to use the skimming strategy to find out if it was possible to improve reading comprehension. Throughout the study, a lot of observation took place (including both participant observation as well as non-participant observation), and for that reason, it was necessary to use field notes and questionnaires in order to have sufficient physical data.Item Influencia de los ambientes ecológicos en el rendimiento escolar de estudiantes. Estudio de caso: Institución Educativa Donald Rodrigo Tafur, Grado Octavo(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Bermúdez Otalvaro, Silvana María; Morales Elejalde, Angélica María; Ocampo Agudelo, Mayra Alejandra; Mosquera Cadena, JohannaThe objective of this thesis is to identify how ecological environment influence academic and disciplinary performance of eighth-grade students of the IETI Donald Rodrigo Tafur school. The ecological theory of human development of Urie Bronfenbrenner was used to achieve the purpose; this theory proposes that human actions are determined by series of interrelations of man in an ecological scope, which is a relation of individual-context. It focuses on the human behavior, having an effect directly on society. Bronfenbrenner set up a logical and organized method to concentrate ecological environments within perfectly defined systems denominated: Micro-system, mesosystem, exo-system and macro-system. The approach for this thesis was qualitative in an exploratory-observatory and applicative perspective, then it was a description and analysis of obtained results. The outcomes of an accurate methodological process demonstrated the eighth-grade students of the IETI Donald Rodrigo Tafur School mobilize in a hostile ecological environment such as violent and dangerous neighborhood, government abandonment and intrafamiliar conflicts, affecting negatively the academic and disciplinary performance.
