Abstract
The main objective of the research was to identify the risk of mental disorders in adolescents enrolled in the municipality of Tumaco - Nariño. This was a quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental and cross-sectional study. The population were high school students from the Ciudadela Mixta Colombia Educational Institution in Tumaco (Nariño). The unit of analysis was adolescents aged 16 to 18 years and older, being in grades 10 and 11 in their highest proportion. The sample was probabilistic through simple random sampling where 130 surveys were carried out. it was detected that 35% of the students have had the idea of ending their lives; for us it is a topic of great interest since students in their daily lives face situations that lead them to make this decision, among these factors we find, extreme poverty, family violence, a history of mental disorder, abuse of psychoactive substances, presence of illegal groups, exposure to suicidal behavior of other people, impulsive behavior, recent losses, which in one way or another have incurred for them to make this decision, where psychological and behavioral disorders should always be treated taking into account the characteristics and factors of each person.
