Objective: The study aims to describe the prevalence of absenteeism due to medical causes in the personnel of a health company of medium complexity in the municipality of Jamundí between the years 2,017 and 2,018. Material and method: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted, in which 336 incapacities of medical cause were analyzed in the personnel working in a company in the health sector. Results and Discussion. It was evidenced that with age the proportion of absent persons increases; 87% of absences were due to general illness and was responsible for the highest frequency of events; according to the work area, the health staff concentrates the highest frequency of absenteeism and by ICD 10 diagnostic group, the pathologies of the M group that correspond to diseases of the musculoskeletal system and connective tissue are the most prevalent and with the greatest number of days of disability generated both in cases of general illness and in occupational accidents
