This article reflects on the fundamental role of physical activity in its prevention and treatment. It points out that genetic, environmental and psychological factors influence their development, with sedentary lifestyles, inadequate nutrition and parenting styles being key determinants. Physical activity, defined by the WHO as any movement that involves energy expenditure, offers physical, cognitive and emotional benefits for children, improving their overall well-being. Physical education professionals have a duty to design programmes that promote active lifestyles in safe and healthy environments, such as schools, homes and communities. Furthermore, it is important to intervene from an early age to prevent this condition from continuing into adulthood. Although there is no single solution, consistent exercise, accompanied by educational strategies and family support, is an essential axis to combat childhood obesity and promote a healthier and fuller childhood.Item Beneficios del control emocional en el deporte(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2023) Ariza Marin, Dario Estiven; Rayo, Franci Yasmin (Directora)Item Como EA Sport puede redefinir el comportamiento sedentario en niños y adolescentes(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2023) Márquez Cobo, Alejandro; González Poveda, Harry Andrés; Lagos Domínguez, Maria Camila; Beltrán Picón, Sol Patricia (Directora)Item El deporte como herramienta para combatir la soledad en el adulto mayor: Un análisis reflexivo(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2025) Murillo Castro, Miguel Ángel; Lara Bermudez, Alejandro; López Quintana, Julián (Director)Loneliness and social isolation are significant risk factors that directly affect the mental and emotional health of older adults, negatively influencing their overall well-being and quality of life. This reflective article aims to analyze the role that sport and physical activity play as effective tools to mitigate the effects of loneliness in this population. Based on a critical review of scientific studies and practical experiences, it is identified that regular participation in physical activities not only improves physical fitness but also promotes social interaction, reinforces self-esteem, and strengthens community ties. Evidence shows a positive relationship between sports practice and emotional well-being, especially when these activities are accompanied by social support networks and spaces that foster inclusion. Furthermore, sport is revealed to be a low-cost, high-impact psychosocial strategy, capable of generating environments of emotional support and active participation in old age. It is concluded that promoting sports should be considered a priority in the design of public policies aimed at older adults, given its potential to reduce loneliness, foster resilience, and improve quality of life during the aging process.Item Ensayo crítico sobre la incidencia de la tecnología en el abandono del Deporte en los adolescentes(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2025) Mosquera Aragón, José Manuel; Rivera Hurtado, Ferney (Director)Introduction: The increased use of digital devices has significantly altered adolescents’ daily routines, fostering more sedentary lifestyles. Objective: This reflection aimed to analyze the relationship between excessive technology use and sedentary behavior in adolescents, based on recent studies exploring this phenomenon. Methodology: A literature-based analysis was conducted using research from academic journals and institutional reports addressing physical activity, screen time, and adolescent health. General Reflection: The findings revealed that factors such as lack of parental supervision, insufficient physical activity integration in schools, and non-educational screen use contribute to a decline in physical engagement among adolescents. Socioeconomic and gender-based disparities were also noted in technology usage patterns, highlighting the importance of context-specific interventions. Conclusions: It is essential to rethink the educational and familial roles in managing technology use to encourage active habits. Technology, when not properly guided, can displace physical practices and negatively affect both cognitive and emotional development. Therefore, this article advocates for a critical balance between the benefits of digital tools and the physical health needs of youth.Item La actividad física para mejorar la calidad de vida en los adultos mayores(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2022) Duque Flórez, Juan Pablo; Jaramillo Eraso, Carlos Andrés; Quiceno Uchima, Juan David; Beltrán Picón, Sol Patricia (Directora)Item La depresión y su influencia en la calidad de vida del adulto mayor(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2025) Álvarez Enríquez, Yeinerson Antonio; Obando Córdoba, Javier; Ramos Amu, Rubén Mauricio; López Herrera, Julián Andrés (Director)Depression in older adults generates emotional problems that influence physical wellbeing and emotional stability, affecting their quality of life. This reflective article addresses how depressive symptoms impact energy, motivation, and body perception, leading to irregular physical exercise among older adults. It supports the informative and reflective identification of how psychological problems caused by depression interfere with the fulfillment of physical activities. Discouragement, loss of interest, and low self-esteem generate vicious bonds, and how physical inactivity worsens depressive states, causing a decrease in quality of life. It is concluded that to improve the quality of life of older adults, it is necessary to emphasize interdisciplinary approaches that recognize mental health as a fundamental pillar in the design of physical activity strategies for older adults, where emotional support is prioritized and inclusion is empathized.Item Obesidad en básica primaria de la Institución Monseñor Ramon Arcila. Análisis teórico para una reflexión(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2025) Barón Quiroz, Juan Pablo; Herrera Guzmán, Juan Manuel; Santacruz Pérez, Meyer; Rivera Hurtado, Ferney (Director)Childhood obesity represents a growing problem in educational institutions, especially at the primary school level. At the Monsignor Ramón Arcila Institution, this phenomenon has emerged as an urgent challenge affecting the overall well-being of students. The objective of this reflection was to analyze the causes of obesity at the institution and critically consider how the educational community can contribute to its prevention and control. The analysis identified multiple factors that contribute to the rise in childhood obesity, such as poor eating habits, a sedentary lifestyle, excessive use of electronic devices, and socioeconomic limitations. According to the World Health Organization, these factors are closely related to unhealthy lifestyles that begin at an early age. Their long-term consequences were also recognized, ranging from metabolic and cardiovascular diseases to emotional distress and poor academic performance. Based on this reflection, the need for intervention within the school environment was highlighted, promoting nutritional education, encouraging physical activity, and revising the school menu. Studies have shown that contextualized school interventions can have a significant impact on reducing childhood obesity. The conclusion is that addressing childhood obesity requires a comprehensive approach that involves the entire educational community. Only through collective, sustained, and contextualized actions will it be possible to improve students' quality of life and ensure their physical, emotional, and academic development.Item Reflexión crítica del ejercicio físico como medicina preventiva en el adulto mayor(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2025) Bravo Arcos, Davinson Andrés; Mamian Mamian, Andrés David; Potosí López, Jhon Alexander; Rivera Hurtado, Ferney (Director)The article presents a critical reflection on physical exercise as a preventive medicine strategy during aging, emphasizing its essential role in promoting an active, autonomous, and healthy life among the elderly population. It acknowledges that the aging process entails physiological, cognitive, and emotional transformations that may negatively affect functionality and quality of life. In this context, regular physical activity is positioned as an effective intervention to mitigate multisystem deterioration, prevent chronic diseases, and strengthen overall well-being. Furthermore, the text highlights that the benefits of exercise go beyond the physical realm, positively influencing mental health and the psychosocial dimension. Indeed, physical activity contributes to emotional regulation, reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety, and decreases social isolation. However, the article identifies structural barriers—social, economic, and cultural—that hinder equitable access for older adults to appropriate and contextualized exercise programs. From a preventive and health promotion perspective, the need to incorporate physical exercise as an inherent component of lifestyle from early stages of the life cycle is proposed, in order to foster functional autonomy and reduce dependency levels in old age. In this regard, it is argued that public policies should aim to create inclusive and accessible environments, especially in rural areas and historically marginalized communities. In conclusion, the article reaffirms that the systematic and personalized practice of physical exercise is a key factor for healthy aging, becoming a fundamental necessity rather than an optional choice, in the pursuit of preserving quality of life in the elderly stage.
