Item Conocimientos y actitud sobre lactancia materna en estudiantes de una facultad de salud. 2024(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2024) Marín Vargas, Isabella; Ocoró Sinisterra, Isabella; Moreno Murillo, Andrea; Ospina Uribe, Martha CeciliaObjective: To determine the level of knowledge and attitude about breastfeeding in students of a health faculty. Methodology: through a descriptive cross-sectional study, students of the last semesters of the Faculty of Health of the Universidad Santiago de Cali were selected through a non-random sampling, and were invited to answer the validated questionnaire "Competence in primary care on breastfeeding" (CAPA), which consists of 20 questions of knowledge and 4 questions of attitude. Results: Between February and April 2024, 114 students were recruited, 72 from nursing (ninth semester), 28 from medicine and 14 from phonoaudiology (tenth semester), 85% female, with an average age of 24.6 ± 3.94 years. Some 26.3% worked in the health area and 24.6% had 1 to 2 children. The students of the 3 programs had good knowledge in 15 (75%) questions of the questionnaire related to all the benefits for both mother and child and the non-use of formula milk. In nursing and medicine, lack of knowledge predominated in contraindications due to the mother having hepatitis B, mastitis, receiving antibiotics, consuming alcohol and being a smoker. The three programs also showed a good attitude towards breastfeeding and present a decisive stance, with no doubts in their great majority in the four related questions.
