Item Ventilación Mecánica en Síndrome de Distrés Respiratorio (SDRA)(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2024-11-26) Ballesteros Lopez,Verónica; Pabón Lozano,Jonnathan Steven; Rodríguez Gómez, yomila( Directora)Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a severe multi-etiological pulmonary condition characterized by severe hypoxemia, which necessitates mechanical ventilation for patient survival. It is usually triggered by multiple patterns that ultimately result in either local (pulmonary) or systemic (extrapulmonary) compromise, putting the patient's life at risk. Its cornerstone treatment consists of protective mechanical ventilation support, aiming to minimize the risk of lung injury while addressing the underlying cause to facilitate recovery. In the following chapter, we will address ARDS from a practical perspective, defining the pathology, its etiologies, pathophysiology, and approach from diagnostic criteria to treatment and monitoring, aiming to provide comprehensive care. Finally, we will provide updates on ARDS, highlighting key aspects of its characterization and management.
