Abstract

Currently, teacher training is of great interest to academics, researchers and world organizations that ensure the education of peoples; since it is recognized in the qualification of this union, one of the aspects that determine the educational quality and the consequent advancement of society. This study aims to identify and describe trends in research and academic writings on Teacher Training in Latin America. A qualitative, descriptive study of a documentary type is presented. The results show that teacher education has been the subject of most educational reforms in the countries of this continent, which were motivated, not only by economic and political adjustments, but also occurred as a product of the struggles of the teaching groups. It is concluded that there are cultural peculiarities in the way teachers are trained in Latin America, but there are common aspects such as the influence of global economic models on current trends in teacher training or the need for educational approaches that promote the development of research skills in teachers and strengthen pedagogical knowledge beyond merely didactic or methodological models.
