Abstract
Introduction. The study focuses on the bibliometric analysis of research on omega-3 fatty acids, with emphasis on its impact on health and well-being. The essentiality of omega-3s in key bodily functions and their preventive potential in diseases is recognized. Objective. To carry out a detailed analysis of the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids on human health. Materials and methods. Bibliometric study. To search for articles, the Scopus database was used; 749 relevant articles on omega-3 fatty acids were found, with a focus on nutrition, medicine and nursing. Bibliometric techniques and statistical programs such as VOSviewer and Excel were applied to analyze citation networks and co-words, with the purpose of identifying patterns and trends in the research. Results. Omega-3, essential for the human body and obtained through diet, offers a variety of benefits such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases, reducing chronic inflammation and improving metabolic and neurological disorders. Maintaining adequate intake is crucial to preventing disease and promoting health. Conclusions. It was concluded that the incorporation of omega-3 fatty acids in the diet plays a fundamental role in the prevention of chronic diseases and the maintenance of optimal health. The need for more research is highlighted to better understand the effects and uses of omega-3 on human health and well-being in order to deepen the knowledge related to the benefits of these polyunsaturated fatty acids.
