(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2025) Montoya Henao, Maria Fernanda; Buritica Gonzales, Gabriela; Pabon, Angelica (Directora)
Introduction. The management of anxiety in pediatric patients during dental procedures is a challenge that requires pediatric dentists to find effective strategies that maintain the quality of the treatment. By means of a literature review, pharmacological and non-pharmacological techniques focused on children from 3 to 8 years of age are explored, analyzing their efficacy. Despite the diversity of approaches available, the most effective method has not yet been determined, given the influence of individual factors such as cognitive development, previous experiences and clinical environment. Aim. To analyze the most effective strategies for anxiety management in pediatric patients 3 to 8 years of age during dental procedures, in order to identify methods to improve the patient experience and the quality of treatment in pediatric dentistry. Methodology. Descriptive research was conducted based on the review of non-experimental secondary sources with a qualitative approach. Results. The PRISMA statement guideline was followed, limiting the results to publications made in the last ten years (2015 to 2024). The databases PubMed, SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar were searched, resulting in 105 articles. Nineteen were excluded by title and 29 were duplicates. Of the remaining 57 articles, 25 did not meet the inclusion criteria, leaving 32 studies that were selected for the literature review. Conclusions. The most effective non-pharmacological interventions to reduce dental anxiety in 4 children aged 3 to 8 years combine distraction techniques and behavioral management, adapting to the individual needs of each patient. Although pharmacological interventions can be effective in cases of severe anxiety or limited cooperation, their use should be evaluated against nonpharmacological alternatives, which present lower risks and greater long-term applicability. Individual factors such as age and gender influence the effectiveness of these strategies, highlighting the importance of tailoring approaches to improve child cooperation. The studies reviewed highlight the need for a comprehensive approach that combines individual characteristics with behavioral and pharmacological techniques, thus optimizing the management of anxiety in pediatric dentistry.

The temporomandibular system is made up of bone, muscle and ligamentous tissue, allowing movement functions and protecting the joint from friction with the articular disc. When an alteration occurs in this system, a temporomandibular disorder (TMD) manifests itself. Its etiology is multifactorial and one of these factors, classified as perpetuators, are psychosocial disorders (APS), which have been found to be related to TMD and APS in adults. Objective: To carry out a systematic narrative review according to the PRISMA standards, about TMD in adults related to APS. Methods: An electronic search was carried out in the Mesh search engine using the keywords, with a result of 632 articles, a thorough selection of the Pubmed, PMC, Scielo, Medigraphic and ResearchGate databases was made, and articles were organized in the program Excel for the application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, ending with a complete analysis of 41 articles and 17 in the synthesis that will answer the problem question. Results: A close relationship between the TMD and the APS was demonstrated, showing a great variety in the TMD but common APS, such as bruxism, stress, anxiety, depression, and others. Discussion: Various APS were revealed in the studies, however, depression, anxiety and stress were the most frequent and present in all of them. Differences were found between the prevalence in the male and female population, the second being the one with the highest rate of APS that influenced the TMD. Conclusion: The female population has a higher prevalence in TMD, and although anxiety and depression were frequent in the studies analyzed, a greater relationship with the presence of stress has been found.

Transtornos temporomandibulares asociados a artritis reumatoide en adultos
(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2022) Agudelo Cardona, Eliana; Tovar Bolaños, Valeria; Calero Clavijo, Isabel (Directora)
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is responsible for many necessary functions in our daily life. Due to the complexity of movements that this joint performs, it can develop disorders due to multiple factors. In this article we want to know if there is a relationship between people who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis are more likely to develop temporomandibular disorders, through a systematic review in different search engines where keywords such as temporomandibular disorders, adults and rheumatoid arthritis were considered. During the systematic review, articles from 1951 were found, since this date this topic began to be prevalent. It was evidenced through the review that most authors agree that there is a relationship between RA and TMD and only one article did not share this opinion.

The Academy of Sleep Medicine defines bruxism as a stereotyped oral motor disorder characterized by grinding and/or clenching of the teeth related to sleep. Sleep bruxism is characterized by both grinding and squeezingtype activity and is associated with complex micro-arousal phenomena that occur during sleep. Objective: To conduct a narrative-type systematic review according to PRISMA standards. about the relationship between sleep bruxism and temporomandibular disorders in children. Methods: An electronic search was carried out in the Mesh search engine using the keywords, with a result of 1944 articles, a thorough selection of the pumed, springer link, scopus, science direct and google school databases and organization of articles was made. In the Excel program for the application of the inclusion and exclusion criteria, ending with a complete analysis of 50 articles and 12 in the synthesis that will answer the problem question. Results: A close relationship between sleep bruxism and TMDs in children was demonstrated, showing a great variety of being able to identify bruxism with different types of diagnosis. Discussion: The relationship between sleep bruxism and TMDs in children remains a topic. controversial in dentistry, this study was carried out with the aim of relating and determining sleep bruxism with temporomandibular disorders in children reported in scientific articles Nocturnal bruxism is mostly diagnosed, possibly because it causes more complex symptoms but when it occurs unconscious is more difficult to control than daytime bruxism Conclusion: The female population has a higher prevalence of sleep bruxism in children, which led to confirm the previous conclusions that the findings of the association depend largely on the evaluation strategy of the sleep bruxism.

Trastornos osteomusculares de profesionales en odontología, revisión bibliográfica
(2025) Vera Timaná, Tania Carolina; Cetre Arroyo, Nicolth Tamara; Nieves Mosquera, Karen Gisel; Bermúdez, Angela Patricia (Asesora)
Aim. To analyze which are the most recurrent musculoskeletal osteomuscular disorders most recurrent in dental professionals in order to make the risks to make the risks visible and propose activities to reduce them. Methodology. A literature review was conducted using the descriptive non-experimental method organized following the qualitative approach. Results. The PRISMA statement guideline was followed, limiting the results to publications made in the last five years (2019 to 2024). The databases PubMed, Sage Journal, Springer, Scopus, SciELO, Redalyc, Dialnet and Google Scholar were searched, resulting in 176 researches in total between articles and theses. Forty-one were excluded due to title and 53 were duplicates. Of the remaining 82 articles, 58 did not meet the inclusion criteria, leaving 24 articles that were selected for the literature review. Conclusions. The most common musculoskeletal disorders in dentists mainly affect the neck, shoulders and lumbar region, due to the static and repetitive nature of the profession. Among the main risk factors identified are inadequate posture, long working hours, repetitive movements and insufficient use of ergonomic equipment. In addition, individual factors such as age, sedentary lifestyle and work stress increase vulnerability to these conditions. The most effective prevention and management strategies include the implementation of ergonomic principles, the promotion of regular physical activity and the adoption of active breaks.
