La depresión y su influencia en la calidad de vida del adulto mayor

Depression in older adults generates emotional problems that influence physical wellbeing and emotional stability, affecting their quality of life. This reflective article addresses how depressive symptoms impact energy, motivation, and body perception, leading to irregular physical exercise among older adults. It supports the informative and reflective identification of how psychological problems caused by depression interfere with the fulfillment of physical activities. Discouragement, loss of interest, and low self-esteem generate vicious bonds, and how physical inactivity worsens depressive states, causing a decrease in quality of life. It is concluded that to improve the quality of life of older adults, it is necessary to emphasize interdisciplinary approaches that recognize mental health as a fundamental pillar in the design of physical activity strategies for older adults, where emotional support is prioritized and inclusion is empathized.
