Comparative study of micro, small and medium Companies in Colombia

Abstract

This work seeks to carry out a comparative analysis of micro, small and medium-sized companies in Colombia, based on characteristics of Information and Communication Technologies. Due to the importance for the countries, the investigation of MSMEs has gained more and more interest both for academic research and for institutions that seek to promote their development. For this study, a descriptive, quantitative study was applied, with ANOVA data analysis of the application of 1600 Colombian MSMEs and 20 sectoral strata were used in 4 of the main cities of Colombia: Barranquilla, Bogotá, Cali and Medellín. The results obtained indicate that the MiPymes have the same infrastructure, in terms of water, sanitation, electricity and telephony services; while, from the point of view of ICT implementation, the use of electronic mail, the use of electronic banking and the provision of a web page, are still in a period of assimilation. It is concluded that the behavior and characteristics of micro, small and medium enterprises influence their sustained success or failure.
