Bilateral Congenital Knee Dislocation in Colombia: Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract
Congenital knee dislocation (CKD) is a rare disease with an estimated incidence of 1 per 100,000 live births, characterized by a rare musculoskeletal malformation in genu recurvatum deformity present at birth, affecting one or both lower limbs. The diagnosis may be suspected during ultrasound when observing that the situation of the extremities is not correct, and is confirmed by physical examination at birth, with plain radiography being helpful to establish the degree of severity. At present there are controversies regarding treatment and there is no definitive protocol. We present a new case of CKD, observed in the city of Manizales, diagnosed immediately after birth.
Description
La luxación congénita de rodilla (DCR) es una enfermedad rara con una incidencia estimada de 1 por cada 100.000 nacidos vivos, caracterizada por una malformación musculoesquelética poco frecuente con deformidad genu recurvatum presente al nacer, que afecta a una o ambas extremidades inferiores. El diagnóstico puede sospecharse durante la ecografía al observar que la situación de las extremidades no es correcta, y se confirma mediante la exploración física al nacer, siendo útil la radiografía simple para establecer el grado de gravedad. En la actualidad existen controversias en cuanto al tratamiento y no existe un protocolo definitivo. Presentamos un nuevo caso de ERC, observado en la ciudad de Manizales, diagnosticado inmediatamente después del nacimiento.
