The review included observational and descriptive studies from major databases such as PubMed, Scielo, BVS Nursing, Taylor & Francis, and Elsevier. Findings indicate that sleep apnea is more prevalent in men, with increased incidence in postmenopausal women. CPAP therapy is recognized as the most evidence-based treatment. The condition is strongly linked to obesity and body mass index and has a significant multisystemic impact, causing mild effects like poor sleep quality, daytime sleepiness, migraines, and mood changes, as well as serious complications affecting cardiovascular, metabolic, cognitive, and mental health.
