Introduction: This research seeks to analyze the effects of exercise prescription strategies in outpatient adult and elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases as reported in the literature Objective: This research seeks to determinate the effects of exercise prescription strategies in outpatient adult and elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases as reported in the literature. Methodology: The study was conducted in accordance with collaboration recommendations and following the PRISMA statement guidelines. A search was conducted in the databases Science Direct, Academic Search, PUBMED, SAGE JOURNALS, Taylor & Francis, and Oxford Academy, from early March 2023 to April 2024. The selection criteria were defined according to the type of exercise prescription and its effects. Results: Of the 7 articles included, the prescription strategies found were high-intensity interval exercises, resistance exercises, aerobic exercises, home exercises, supervised exercise therapy and Pilates. Of these strategies, the most commonly used were high-intensity interval exercises which showed a reduction in morbidity and mortality in patients with coronary artery disease, resistance exercise were used in patients with chronic heart failure which improved cardiac and pulmonary function and aerobic exercises in patients with stroke which improved aerobic capacity. Conclusions: This research shows that various exercise strategies, especially high-intensity interval exercises, improve cardiovascular health in patients with heart conditions. Resistance and aerobic exercises are also beneficial. A combination of exercises and home activity prescriptions has proven effective, even surpassing traditional cardiac rehabilitation. Additionally, Pilates reduces blood pressure in hypertensive women. These findings emphasize the need to personalize exercise prescriptions and suggest that these practices may improve patients' quality of life.
