    Educación por competencias: una estrategia imprescindible para el siglo XXI

    In modern times, education is in a constant challenge of adaptation and evolution. This article analyzes the importance of implementing the competency-based approach in the contemporary education systems of the 20th century. The authors argue that, in an increasingly globalized and technological world, education must go beyond the mere transmission of theoretical knowledge, they emphasize that the competency-based approach is focused on the development of practical skills, attitudes and values that are essential for personal and professional life, thus becoming an approach with a significant impact on student motivation and performance due to its orientation towards more relevant, personalized and applicable learning for the 20th century. The competency-based approach also redefines the role of educators. Teachers become facilitators of learning, guiding students in the development of their competencies through active and participatory methodologies. This not only enriches the educational experience, but also increases the motivation and commitment of both students and teachers. The way this approach prepares students for the labor market. Instead of focusing solely on specific technical knowledge, the competency-based approach develops transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, critical thinking and problem solving. These competencies are highly valued by employers and are essential for success in any professional career. However, the implementation of the competency based approach is not without challenges. It requires a significant restructuring of curricula, teaching methods and evaluation. It also implies a cultural change in educational institutions, where all actors, from administrators to teachers and students, must be committed to this new paradigm.
