Item Debilidad muscular adquirida en UCI(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2021) Campo Diaz, Lesdy Dahiana; Vitery Ramos, Jenny del Rosario (Directora)ICU-acquired muscle weakness is a diffuse, bilateral, and symmetrical neuromuscular involvement. It appears when the clinical condition of the patient requires prolonged periods of rest and ventilatory support with the consequent use of medications that restrict spontaneous muscle activity, such as sedatives and muscle relaxants. Taking into account that this causes an affectation in the different systems, causing alterations in the function of the nerves causing a polyneuropathy in critical patients or an alteration in the muscles leading to myopathy in the critical patient. Muscle weakness acquired in ICU is associated with consequences of the prolonged immobility to which critically ill patients are usually subjected, considerably affecting the recovery of patients. It is important to know how to recognize muscle weakness in the early stages and always suspect it in patients with difficulty in ventilatory weaning, without forgetting the most related causal factors such as systemic inflammation, sepsis and multi-organ failure, duration of mechanical ventilation, hyperglycemia, the administration of corticosteroids and the prolonged use of neuromuscular blocking agents try to avoid them as much as possible.
