A new coordination polymer was synthesized from aluminum nitrate and the 3-hydroxy-2,7- naphthalenedisulphonate (3-OHNDS) acid ligand under solvotermal methodology using DMF as solvent. Brown crystals were obtained, which were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, TGA / DSC thermal analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction (SCDRX). Crystallographic data of the compound were obtained and from these the structure of the compound with general formula [Al2(3-OHNDS)2]∙3H2O. Additionally it was also determined that the compound crystallized in the Monoclinic system and belongs to the C2 space group. The polymer structure grows along [100] direction and it was finally concluded that the water molecules are responsible for the crystal packing of the molecule, because they can form hydrogen bonds responsible for joining the polymer chains and generate the crystal packing
