Item Obtención y caracterización fisicoquímica de un éster de PEG-600 a partir de la biomasa residual del aceite de palmiste(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2023) Vinasco Bonilla, Tania Alejandra; Flórez López, Edwin (Director); García Pasiminio, Rita Esther (Directora)Palm kernel oil production in Colombia is 5,738,000 tons per year, from which refined oil and fatty residues (residual biomass) are obtained, of which an estimated 57,380 tons are generally discarded due to their low utility for industries. This work focused on synthesizing a polyethylene glycol 600 ester from this residual biomass, obtaining a value-added product for the agri-food sector. This was carried out through the synthesis of a PEG 600 ester from this waste, the characterization of the compound was performed by infrared spectroscopy and gas chromatography, evidencing the formation of the ester and the decrease of available fatty acids. Its functionality was validated in comparison with products of similar composition by measuring the surface tension of the synthesized product, its wettability capacity and calculating its capacity as an emulsifier, tests in which positive results were obtained that allow it to participate in products of the agro-food sector. In conclusion, it was possible to synthesize and physicochemically characterize a value-added product from the residual biomass of palm kernel oil refining.
