(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2022) Ibargüen Gutierrez, Michaell Daniel; Campo Montero, Juan Pablo; Villegas Velasco, Juan Camilo; Escobar Cabrera, Julio Cesar (Director)
The Covid-19 pandemic, which spread throughout the world, and of course in Colombia, forced governments to take preventive isolation decisions, causing multiple economic and social impacts, which also affected educational institutions that had to adapt to new educational strategies. The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of the pandemic on the employment of students of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the Santiago de Cali University. For this, a bibliographic review was initially carried out and later a survey was made to the students of the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the Santiago de Cali University. The results show that the COVID-19 pandemic in Colombia had a great negative effect on the economy and on education, which drastically affected labor activity, causing unemployment, especially among youth. In addition, educational institutions had to make important changes in the development of their activities that led to the need to implement virtual or remote classes in a short period of time. In the case of the students of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, their perception of the Covid pandemic and its effect on employment showed that a high percentage considered that the University took the appropriate measures to face the crisis caused, but that their jobs could affected or at least there was a decrease in income and although the students adapted to virtual classes, they prefer face-to-face classes and finally make recommendations so that the university contributes to developing strategies to preserve jobs or generate entrepreneurship. In conclusion, the pandemic caused a negative impact on the employment of the students of the Faculty, but the majority achieved the continuity of their studies, but it is necessary for the University to generate strategies to support the students to face future similar events that allow them to keep their jobs and not decrease their income.
