This study reports on the preparation and characterization of biodegradable films based on starch-chitosan-nanoclay using Sovent-casting. The films were prepared with a 7.5: 1: 0.15 ratio of starch: chitosan: nanoclay, filmogenic solutions were prepared for starch with glycerol and for chitosan an acid solution. Before being incorporated into the starch-chitosan film-forming solution, the nanoclays were dispersed in two ways: by magnetic stirring and by sonication at different times (0, 10, 20 and 30 min). The FTIR results of films that were prepared under the influence of ultrasound at 20 and 30 min suggest a strong interaction between the components that also improved the dispersion both by exfoliation of the clay sheets and the destructuring of starch granules. Thermal stability was favored by minimizing the degradation stages, resulting in the incorporation of nanoparticles in mixing assisted by ultrasound a single main loss of mass around 300 ° C. Therefore, the successful incorporation of 0.15% nanoclays in the starch-chitosan matrix sonicated at 30 min suggests that this film is a good candidate for use as biodegradable packaging
