Item Los inmovilizadores cervicales y su impacto en la prevención de lesiones medulares en Colombia.(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2024) Torres Garcia, Anna Karina; López Guzmán, Carlos Alberto (Director)Cervical immobilization devices, such as rigid collars, are used in prehospital care to restrict cervical spine motion in patients with suspected spinal cord injury in an attempt to prevent further damage. However, their effectiveness remains controversial due to the associated clinical risks and limited evidence of their benefit in reducing neurological deficits. However, rigid collars can effectively limit range of motion, particularly in the planes of flexion, extension, and rotation. This biomechanical benefit is at odds with risks such as respiratory difficulties, increased intracranial pressure, and pressure-induced injuries. In response to these dangers, several institutions have begun to consider not using rigid immobilizers, opting for options such as soft collars, which provide less limitation but more tolerance and safety for the patient. For this reason, the question 3 of the effectiveness of cervical immobilizers in preventing spinal cord injuries in Colombia was raised. The selected methodology corresponds to the PRISMA-ScR 2020 guide for the selection of scientific articles.
