    The World Health Organization (WHO) defines visual impairment as total blindness or low vision ranging from no perception of light or a reduction of the visual field of less than 10 degrees. The OMS estimates that worldwide there are at least 1.3 billion people with some type of visual impairment due to different causes, with retinopathy of prematurity, congenital cataracts, being the main ones; in Colombia the prevalence of blindness is 0.7%, which indicates that for every million inhabitants there are 7,000 visually impaired.
