Item Frio silencioso: Consecuencias y manejo de la hipotermia durante la cirugía. Revisión bibliográfica(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2024) Gómez Chacón, Lilibeth; Ruiz Lozano, Valentina; Vallejo Castañeda, Elías; Segura Castillo, Linda Nerieth (Directora)Introduction: Intraoperative hypothermia is a complication that can occur during surgical procedures, especially those that are of long duration or involve patient exposure to cold temperatures. Reducing body temperature to levels below normal can have serious consequences for the patient, as well as impact the surgical process. Objective: To know the causes and risk factors of hypothermia during surgery. Materials and Methods: A systematic review was carried out using databases such as the Virtual Health Library, PubMed, Science Direct, the Spanish Bibliographic Index in Health Sciences (IBECS), Springer Link, Web of Science, Google Scholar, Directory of Open Access Journals, among others. Results: It was possible to identify that perioperative hypothermia is a common and significant complication that affects a large number of patients undergoing surgery. It is estimated that between 70% and 90% of patients develop hypothermia during surgical procedures, which can have serious consequences for the patient's health. Conclusions: Hypothermia is associated with an increased incidence of surgical site infections. This is due to impaired immune function, affecting the ability of neutrophils and macrophages to fight infections, as well as decreased blood flow that limits oxygen delivery to affected tissues.
