Cancer is a disease characterized by the uncontrolled proliferation of abnormal cells, leading to tumor formation and rapid progression, and remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. For this reason, new biomarker alternatives are being explored to enable early detection, improve treatment outcomes, and reduce morbidity and mortality rates. Biomarkers are substances that reflect organ status and provide specific responses to pathological alterations. In this study, the synthesis of a bischalcone derived from phenothiazine was proposed for potential use as a biomarker. The synthetic route was carried out in three steps: (1) O-alkylation of phenothiazine with 1-bromobutane, yielding 40.0%; (2) formylation at position 3 through the Vilsmeier–Haack reaction, with a yield of 42.9%; and (3) Claisen–Schmidt condensation, affording the target product (BCF3) in 44.8% yield. Structural characterization was performed using spectroscopic techniques, highlighting key signals in the ^1H NMR spectrum, including a multiplet between δ 6.85–7.40 ppm (16H) corresponding to vinylic protons, and characteristic IR bands at 1645 and 1610 cm⁻¹ attributed to carbonyl and α, β-unsaturated bond stretching vibrations, respectively. The molecular mass was confirmed by mass spectrometry (MS), showing a molecular ion peak at m/z 588. The synthesized bischalcone (BCF3) is currently undergoing biological evaluation at Universidad del Norte (Barranquilla) to assess its potential anticancer activity.
