Item Expectativa de cuidadores frente al desarrollo de habilidades sociales de personas con discapacidad cognitiva que participan en actividades de mediación artística(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2023) Martínez Padilla, Dayana Geraldinne; Pacheco Santacruz, Daniela; Zuluaga Piedrahita, Valentina; Tamayo, Paula Andrea (Directora)Caregivers of individuals with cognitive disabilities face daily challenges related to long-term mental, intellectual, physical, or sensory difficulties and the barriers that hinder the social and community participation of those they care for. Artistic mediations represent a community-based strategy to facilitate the inclusion of individuals with cognitive disabilities. The Fine Arts Inclusion Labs at Bellas Artes Institución Universitaria del Valle provide a space that fosters the inclusion of these individuals through the use of artistic mediation as a means to strengthen social bonds and promote community self-care. In the field of community psychology, these strategies are of great interest, as their recognition could contribute to the future development of a community-based primary mental health care model with a differential approach for people with disabilities. However, the expectations that caregivers place on these strategies are concerning. With the aim of identifying caregivers' expectations regarding the development of social skills in individuals with cognitive disabilities participating in artistic mediation activities, a qualitative study with a social-community approach was conducted. The study used a case study method and included a sample of five caregivers of individuals with cognitive disabilities who gave their consent for the realization and publication of this study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted for data production, which were recorded and transcribed. Data analysis was conducted inductively based on the narratives generated in the interviews. The results indicated that caregivers' expectations can be both realistic and unrealistic. Caregivers base their realistic expectations on evidence that artistic mediations help the individuals under their care manage their emotions, improve communication and share inclusive spaces. Unrealistic expectations are related to the hope that individuals with severe and profound cognitive disabilities will achieve independent living.
