Item Design of service-oriented pervasive system for urban computing in Cali Zoo (Openzoo)(World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology, 2010-03-20) Zuñiga, Claudia Liliana; Millan, Andres F.; Abadia, Jose L.; Lora, Monica; Navarro, Andres; Burguillo, Juan C.; Rodriguez, Pedro S.The increasing popularity of wireless technologies and mobile computing devices has enabled new application areas and research. One of these new areas is pervasive systems in urban environments, because urban environments are characterized by high concentration of these technologies and devices. In this paper we will show the process of pervasive system design in urban environments, using as use case a local zoo in Cali, Colombia. Based on an ethnographic studio, we present the design of a pervasive system for urban computing based on service oriented architecture to controlled environment of Cali Zoo. In this paper, the reader will find a methodological approach for the design of similar systems, using data collection methods, conceptual frameworks for urban environments and considerations of analysis and design of service oriented systems.Item Technological Models of Municipal Wireless Networks based on Hybrid WiFi/WiMAX Mesh Networks: a proposal to Colombian Municipalities(2009 IEEE Latin-American Conference on Communications, LATINCOM '09 - Conference Proceedings, 2009-10-30) Millan, Andres F.; Hernandez, Julian; Zuniga, Claudia L.; Navarro, Andres; Rodriguez, PedroThe telecommunications infrastructure citizen-oriented has become a necessity in cities that wish to direct themselves to a new information society. One of the technological alternatives for these infrastructures is municipal wireless networks. These municipal wireless networks offer flexibility, speed of installation and less implementation costs for cities. For this reason, it is considered of interest the wider use of wireless networks for the Colombian municipalities, considers that in this environment there is limited budget and low rate of connectivity to broadband networks. This article presents a review of the current state of municipal wireless networks related to the technological aspects, with the intention to propose two technological architectures that may be feasible to implement in the Colombian municipalities.
