The reflective article presented in this paper addressed sedentary lifestyles and their impact on the overall health of older adults, taking into account the physical, cognitive, emotional, functional, and social dimensions. The objective of this article was to examine how a sedentary lifestyle deteriorated the quality of life of older adults, diminishing their autonomy, well-being, and social participation. To inform this reflection, a literature review was conducted to determine how sedentary lifestyles led to loss of muscle strength, inability to move, memory impairment, feelings of anxiety, depression, and isolation. It was evident that physical inactivity intensified dependency rates and reduced self-esteem, negatively affecting overall functionality. Similarly, it was emphasized that the situation deteriorated during the COVID-19 pandemic, given the confinement and the reduction in exercise spaces. It was highlighted that movement is key to the physical and mental health of older adults. The proposal was to promote public policies, community strategies, and a cultural shift that would highlight the value of active bodies during old age. This is not just a health recommendation; it is a social and ethical responsibility for a population that can still maintain its independence. The conclusion was reached that sedentary lifestyle stemmed not only from age but also from lifestyle, which makes it imperative to further promote physical activity as a cornerstone of active aging.
