A focus is made on the integration of search and rescue canine units in the support of locating people victims of natural disasters, their effectiveness in carrying out their work is pointed out, the benefits, in addition to presenting the characteristics that canine teams must comply with, how they carry out their activities, and how their training is until they can find living people for their rescue, or lifeless people, to recover their bodies using smell. Background. Several authors recognize the importance of the implementation of canine units in emergency scenarios to find missing persons; However, studies with empirical evidence of search and rescue canines in Latin America are few, likewise, rescue dogs also called (k9) are considered important support animals for humans, since with their powerful sense of smell they detect the human smell. However, there are also multiple protocols used in different countries on the use of canine units. Consequently, it is appropriate to group data on publications oriented towards the effectiveness in terms of the use of canine units to find victims. Aim. Establish the degree of effectiveness of the canine units (k9) used to find victims of structural collapses, product of earthquakes, through a scope review of the period 2012-2022 Methodology. Scope review based on the Prisma Guide for article screening, segmenting the information from a PCC question (Population, Concept, Context). Results: It is a conglomerate of characteristics and conditions, which make the dog suitable to find victims in a structural collapse, which, when evaluated, certify that they can be used for disaster scenarios, which increases the chances of success of the dog in the field, so there are organizations in charge of certifying institutions that have SAR dogs, which ensure or improve in a certain sense the probability of a successful search. Conclusions: The effectiveness of the canine team is based on the constant evaluations that their trainers carry out, as well as their respective certifications that the dog and the handler must have, this in order not to reduce the quality of the search for people by the dog. Dog, if this is carried out according to the characteristics established by the USAR, the chances of success of a search dog and location of victims in structures collapsed by earthquakes are very high
