Item Exploring physical and chemical properties in new multifunctional indium-, bismuth-, and zinc-based 1D and 2D coordination polymers(Royal Society of Chemistry, 2018-01-01) Gomez, G. E.; D'vries, Richard F.; Lionello, D. F.; Aguirre Díaz, L. M.; Spinosa, M.; Costa, C. S.; Fuertes, M. C.; Pizarro, R. A.; Kaczmarek, A. M.; Ellena, J.; Rozes, L.; Iglesias, M.; Van Deun, R.; Sanchez, C.; Monge, M. A.; Soler-Illia, G. J. A. A.Main group element coordination polymers (MGE-CPs) are important compounds for the development of multifunctional materials. However, there has been a shortage of studies regarding their structural, optical, catalytic, mechanical, and antibacterial properties. This work presents an exhaustive study of a set of crystalline MGE-CPs obtained from bismuth and indium metals and iminodiacetate, 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate, and 2,2′-bipyridine as building blocks. An in-depth topological analysis of the networks was carried out. Additionally, nanoindentation studies were performed on two representative low-dimensional compounds in order to find the relationships between their structural features and their intrinsic mechanical properties (hardness and elasticity). The solid-state photoluminescence (SSPL) properties were also studied in terms of excitation, emission, lifetimes values, and CIE chromaticites. Moreover, the heterogeneous catalytic activities of the compounds were evaluated with the cyanosilylation reaction using a set of carbonylic substrates under solvent-free conditions. Finally, the inhibitory effect of the Bi-CPs on the growth of microorganisms such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which are associated with relevant infectious diseases, is reported.Item Order-disorder phase transition induced by proton transfer in a co-crystal of 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid and trimethylamine: N -oxide(Royal Society of Chemistry, 2017-06-05) D'vries, Richard F.; Moreno Fuquen, Rodolfo; Camps, Ihosvany; Ayala, Alejandro Pedro; Kennedy, Alan R.; Reinheimer, Eric W.; Ellena, JavierA crystalline binary adduct between trimethylamine N-oxide (TMANO) and 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DCBA) molecules was obtained by slow evaporation from acetonitrile. The obtained molecular complex is formed by a racemic mixture of molecular complexes crystallizing in the orthorhombic space group Pbca. An exhaustive analysis of the temperature dependence of the cell parameters and the behavior of the acidic hydrogen position and carboxylate group was performed by single crystal and powder X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopy and theoretical calculations. The molecular system was thermally characterized, subsequently demonstrating an order–disorder transition. Finally, the intermolecular interactions were analyzed via Hirshfeld surface analysis.Item Photochemical and Electrochemical Triggered Bis(hydrazone) Switch(Wiley-VCH Verlag, 2017-08-17) Gordillo, Mónica A.; Soto Monsalve, Mónica; Carmona Vargas, Christian C.; Gutiérrez, Gustavo; D'vries, Richard F.; Lehn, Jean Marie; Chau, Manuel N.Herein, we report the synthesis of a double hydrazone capable of undergoing photochemical E/Z isomerization through the imine double bonds. The bis(hydrazone) 1‐E,E can be considered as a “two‐arm” system in which the controlled movement of each arm is obtained by photo‐modulation, making possible the appearance of two isolable metastable isomeric states 1‐E,Z and 1‐Z,Z. Such states are characterized by very specific structural, optical, and electrochemical properties. The latter allows the reversible return from either 1‐E,Z or 1‐Z,Z to the 1‐E,E state. Our results are of great importance in the further development of molecular machines and photochemically controlled reactions by introducing for the first time double hydrazones as tunable photochemical switches.Item A Photochemical and Electrochemical Triggered Bis(hydrazone) Switch(Chemistry - A European Journal, 2017) Gordillo, Mónica A.; Soto-Monsalve, Mónica; Carmona-Vargas, Christian C.; Gutierrez, Gustavo; D'vries, Richard F.; Lehn, Jean-Marie; Chaur, Manuel N.Herein, we report the synthesis of a double hydrazone capable of undergoing photochemical E/Z isomerization through the imine double bonds.
