The infrared viewer is a tool in the intrahospital field, precisely in the area of venipuncture procedures, this technology facilitates health personnel by reducing the time it takes to carry out this process, in addition to this, it avoids having major complications with the patient such as : infections, extravasation and phlebitis, thus obtaining a patent venous route in the shortest possible time. The use of the infrared viewer as a biomedical device for venipuncture helps simplify the traditional technique used by health personnel, it also helps to have a visualization and location of the veins, in which different patients who, due to their disease, race, age, obesity, may have difficult venous access, in this way the device performs the venipuncture technique better with precision, having an improvement in the procedure time in health personnel, given that it is a non-invasive method, statistically it is not has shown no type of inconvenience with the device, this being the most suitable for emergency services, although some institutions prefer ultrasound which is not as beneficial due to its cost, however it must be taken into account that some institutions are unaware of the device, since there is no intrahospital guide in Valle del Cauca that indicates the use of the infrared viewer, although several studies of international articles have demonstrated its effectiveness, having positive data on the use of the biomedical device, one of the weaknesses of the viewer infrared is the absence of guides and protocols at the national and intra-hospital level, added to this that health personnel are unaware of the device and therefore, as a result, the absence of training. Keywords: venipuncture, infrared visualization, cannulation, intravenous access.
