(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2019) Castro Forero, Maria Camila; Mendoza Rodriguez, Daniela; Osorio Zuluaga, Lady Daniela; Lozano Garcia, Jennifer Johana (Directora)
The objective of this work was to determine the adherence level to the surgical hand washing protocol in the graduates of the surgical instrumentation program of the Santiago de Cali University who work in 4 clinical institutions in the cities of Cali and Palmira in 2018 in order to determine if the people under study in the healthcare area performs correct surgical handwashing or conversely they do not satisfy with the parameters established by the university, without consider the possible complications that this It may in the patient. Regarding the design of this study it is observational, the indirectly observation during the execution of the surgical handwashing was registered in the checklist. In order not to alter the results of this study to avoid interfering in the veracity of the results, the sample size was obtained at convenience because only the graduates who work in the healthcare area where surgical handwashing is performed with water and antiseptic soap were included in the study. At the time of the observation they were given a confidentiality agreement, then the checklist determined in 2 levels of adherence was made, being low from 0 to 49.9% and high from 50 to 100%, the checklist has the requirements that are needed to perform a good surgical handwashing, and at each point it was established whether or not people complied it. Then, the survey was conducted, the survey shows the level of knowledge regarding the research topic, classified as follows: low level is less than 33.3%, medium knowledge level from 33.4% to 66, 6% and high level of knowledge from 66.7% to 100%. Finally, the results of the knowledge survey and the checklist were obtained: 1. 57% of the people under study obtained a high level of knowledge and the remaining 43% are at a medium level, according to the interpretation table. 2. The graduates under study are in a high level of adherence obtaining a score of 100% according to the scale of measurement. 3 The conclusion is that it could be shown that although the results at the level of knowledge and practice are high, a part of the people under study must reinforce concepts related to surgical handwashing, rethink some parameters that are not being met at the time of performing it, so take corrective measures to do their work and avoid being transmitters of nosocomial infections in the area of surgery, always focused on the patient's welfare
