Item Efectividad de las diferentes técnicas de terapia manual en las disfunciones de la articulación temporomandibular(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2025) Riascos Aguiño, Michelle Eloísa; Caicedo Portocarrero, Jixy Marcela; Murillo Riascos, Cristian Ferney; Perafan González, Diana (Directora)Manual therapy consists of different techniques in which the hands are used to evaluate and treat musculoskeletal dysfunctions. This study seeks to describe the effectiveness of different manual techniques in temporomandibular dysfunctions. A scoping review was carried out following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, which include 20 criteria for reporting, evaluating clinical trials and observational studies that were published in the last 5 years (2019-2024). Studies that evaluated adults with comorbidities such as bruxism, limitation in mouth opening, tinnitus, orofacial pain, among others, were included. In this review, the methodological quality of the included studies is reported through the PEDRo tool. The languages included were Spanish and English. 305 studies were identified, 10 studies were taken into account in the final review. 80% (n=8) were from cohort studies and 20% (n=2) were from observational studies, 50% were institutionalized population. The results reveal a decrease in pain, improvement in mouth opening. In addition, it was observed that, on average, women have more temporomandibular disorder compared to men. Manual therapy is concluded to be a practical and effective modality to detect musculoskeletal dysfunctions, reinforcing its usefulness in clinical evaluation in the adult population.
