Luz Dary; Arroyo Valencia,Luz DaryThe present research on the somatotype in volleyball players from a sports institute in the city of Palmira in 2019, aims to determine the somatotype of volleyball players. It is necessary to mention that Sheldon defines the somatotype as “a quantification of the three primary components of the human body expressed in figures. These elements are: fat, muscle and linearity ”2. The theme of this study corresponds to a series of concerns that, as physiotherapists in training, have been generated within the realization of courses and practices with an emphasis on sport. It is frequently mentioned that although studies have been carried out on the contribution made by the physiotherapist in sports training, the probability of injuries continues to appear in the different sports institutions, this gap being more evident in the volleyball players in whom conducted the investigation. Objective: To determine the somatotype in volleyball players from a sports institute in the city of Palmira in 2019. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out, where the somatotype of volleyball players was determined in a sports institute. of the city of Palmira in 2019., Results: The field work of this study was carried out at a sports institute in the municipality of Palmira, Valle del Cauca, in the months of August and September of the year 2018, reaching a final sample of 19 athletes. Next, the results obtained in the research are described., Conclusions: In this research work, the somatotype was determined in volleyball players from a sports institute in the city of Palmira in 2019, in which it can be concluded that, Having taking into account the anthropometric characteristics and dimensions of the athlete who are in the growth stage between 15 and 16 years, the adolescent is frequently found in an endomorphic somatotype, and this when developing a sports practice such as volleyball that requires a work of agility, speed and strength will generate a constitution of greater volume in the lower body, which makes the somatotype adapt to the needs of sport over time, thus giving a mesomorphic somatotype between the ages of 17 and 18 years old, which will facilitate the development of sports practice, thus giving high performance in sport. In addition, a call is made to reflect on the importance of developing research proposals in the sports field about the somatotype required in each sport, thus giving way to proposals for improvement in the athlete's training plans taking into account the somatotype, since that this allows a greater performance of the athlete in the execution of the sport, giving better results at a competitive level both nationally and internationally, generating greater recognition of the sport and greater research interest for professionals in the area.
