Item Salud mental de adultos mayores institucionalizados: Revisión de alcance(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2024) Angola Zapata, Valentina; Carillo Trujillo, Nicolás; Motes, LinaMental health according to WHO is a state of well-being in which the individual is aware of his own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to contribute to his community; Approximately 14% of adults aged 60 years and older live with a mental disorder. Therefore, the objective of the present review is to know the current state of mental health of institutionalized older adults. Methodology. Scoping review that conducted a literature search in 10 electronic databases, from there 12 articles published in years 2019 - 2023, 1 from Europe, 11 from America were identified and analyzed in depth. Results: The mental health of institutionalized older adults is described in four categories: risk factors, protective factors, needs and nursing care. However, the most prevalent category was risk factors, identifying that, although some variables preserve the mental health of institutionalized older adults, there are others that deteriorate it, these being the most predominant. Conclusions: It could be evidenced that the mental health of the institutionalized elderly is degraded due to the lack of interest on the part of different entities and health professionals, which has led to a state of abandonment and defloration. The monitoring of this problem should be strict and transparent to avoid further damage to the mental health of institutionalized older adults.
