Item Prevalencia del síndrome de Burnout y factores relacionados en el personal de urgencias de una institución prestadora de Salud de mediana complejidad en la ciudad de Santiago de Cali en el año 2017(Universidad Santiago de Cali, 2017) Alonso Esteban, Sandra Viviana; Ortíz Rodríguez, Leidy Rocio; Cubides, Angela MaríacBurnout, also known as professional attrition syndrome, emotional overload syndrome or burn syndrome, is a clinical syndrome that was described by the psychiatrist Freudenberguer in 1973, as a “state of fatigue or frustration that is caused by dedication to a cause, way of life or relationship that does not produce the expected reinforcement ”(1). In the beginning this phenomenon was limited to professionals in the field of human services, however, later studies have found that everyone who performs a job is susceptible to suffering from it. At present, it is known as a syndrome due to its various causes, it is characterized by the fact that it causes exhaustion and its manifestation is usually evident physically, however, it can be expressed emotionally and psychologically (2). SBO is a disorder that is increasingly known and diagnosed in the clinical setting, so much so that the World Health Organization since 2000 classified it as a occupational risk (3). The ILO also includes it in its publication made in April 2016 where it is classified as “the prolonged response to chronic exposure to emotional and interpersonal psychosocial risks at work” (4). Likewise, it is classified under code Z73.0 in ICD 9 (International Classification of Diseases), as “problems handling life difficulties: Exhaustion”, and in ICD 10 as “Burnout”. (5) (6).
