It can be defined as a physical method that uses a mechanical device for the artificial support of ventilation and oxygenation, when the respiratory system is insufficient. This book chapter aims to mention the basic principles of mechanical ventilation in a detailed and understandable way for undergraduate students. Since we did not obtain much evidence that was easy to understand for undergraduate students, we decided to write a book chapter to facilitate the reader's learning of mechanical ventilation in a detailed and guided way, thus allowing undergraduate students to understand the basic principles of ventilation and thus improve their performance in clinical practice.
